For employees facing separation

Most severance agreements are written to protect the company. Yours doesn’t have to be one of them.

Know what you’re signing away.

Am I waiving age-discrimination claims? Can I keep my equity? Is the non-compete enforceable in my state? Am I being underpaid for my level? What should I push back on before I sign? Severance Clarity will read your separation agreement and give you a plain-English breakdown in minutes, release scope, ongoing obligations, cash value, and the questions to bring to your lawyer or HR.

What Severance Clarity reviews

The clauses that decide what you’re really giving up.

  • Release scope. What claims you’re waiving, including age discrimination, wage & hour, and tort claims, and what you keep.
  • Ongoing obligations. Non-compete, non-solicit, non-disparagement, and cooperation clauses, with state-specific enforceability flags.
  • Cash value & tax structure. Lump sum vs. salary continuation, COBRA, equity acceleration, and how your payout compares for your tenure.
  • ADEA / OWBPA compliance. If you’re 40+, we check the 21-day review window, 7-day revocation right, and knowing-and-voluntary standards.
  • Questions to bring to your lawyer. 3-5 specific, named pushback items, not generic advice.

Common questions

Are you lawyers?

No. Severance Clarity is not a law firm and we do not provide legal advice. We provide structured informational analysis of the document you give us. If you want legal advice, talk to a licensed attorney in your state, and we’ll happily hand you the report to bring to them.

Will my employer find out?

No. We don’t contact your employer. Your agreement and your analysis are private to you.

How long does it take?

Most reviews are ready in under 10 minutes after payment. Long or multi-document separation packages may take longer; we’ll email you the moment the report is ready.

How fast do I need to act?

Severance agreements typically come with deadlines. If you’re 40 or older, federal law gives you at least 21 days to consider the agreement (45 days for group separations) and 7 days to revoke after signing. Run the review first; don’t let the deadline force a rushed signature.

Does my state matter?

Yes. Non-competes, non-solicits, and non-disparagement clauses differ enormously by state. California voids most non-competes outright; other states scrutinise reasonableness; a few enforce them broadly. Tell us your jurisdiction and we’ll surface the relevant considerations, informational only, not legal advice.

What if I’m being offered less than my co-workers?

We compare the cash component against typical benchmarks for your tenure and level and surface that as context. We can’t tell you whether to negotiate, but we’ll show you where the room may be.

Can you tell me whether to sign?

We won’t make that call for you. We’ll show you exactly what the agreement says, where the risks are, and what to push back on. The decision is yours.
